A national park area
Boston Harbor Islands

What to Bring

Water breezes make for cooler ferry rides, requiring jackets or windbreakers (no matter how hot it is on land). Dress in layers.

Bring food and plenty of water--this is a must! Fresh water is available only on Georges and Spectacle Islands; please bring your own just to be sure. Likewise, Georges and Spectacle are the only islands with food service--a snack bar.

Make sure you provide the following for your trip:

  • jacket
  • sunscreen
  • hat to shade the sun
  • walking shoes
  • plenty of water

Tip: Leave your pet at home. Although they are allowed on the ferries, dogs and other pets are not permitted on the islands in order to protect wildlife and other visitors. Service dogs are permitted.

Visitors must comply with all posted regulations and obey park rangers. The following are NOT allowed on the islands (special groups may have permits):

  • pets
  • bicycles or roller blades
  • alcoholic beverages
  • weapons
  • fireworks
  • disorderly conduct
  • amplified sound
